LEGO and Nintendo did this new charming little set.

Won't be long before the first geeks will have Raspberry Pi running an emulator with a bunch of ROMs I'm sure.
(Obviously downloading ROMs is naughty naughty and illegal. So don't do that) 😇

Things are happening at a little known DK project. 'Project Tumble' by Digital Devotion in Aarhus filmby.
Described as a multiplayer adventure-party game, where you go on fantasy-fueled journeys with your friends

Interesting how this will pan out! :)

Another little known DK project/company is Map Strike from the fairly new company Arusio.
The PR video is pretty fancy. One thing is sure. It is certainly a highly difficult concept they have chosen to tackle.

Map Strike is not available yet on any of the store fronts.

MapStrike turns your phone into a blaster and your neighbourhood into an interactive battleground for you and your friends! This is Real World FPS - and it's multiplayer!

Deep Rock Galactic made it to a current 3rd on the dynamic list https://steam250.com Best of 2020!

Also currently A Hat in Time from Gears for Breakfast is on a 6th place in the Coop category.

Haha not sure how it works?! But the >heavily< coop focused Deep Rock Galactic was beaten by A Hat in Time on the Coop list.. And had to settle for a 17th place in Coop. But 3rd in Best of 2020 is noooot exactly a bad place to be. So I guess they'll take it! ;)

But they did get beaten at their own coop game. ;)

Spotted INSIDE from Playdead currently on 45th place in the Story Rich category.

DK project Viking Butcher released free on Steam. "Sort of" wave based Missile Command like shooter with a Viking theme and free movement.

Also there is a demo on itch.

A more Missile Command like DK game is Rocket Crisis: Missile Defense on Droid. It's pretty good actually!

A guy called FickleSwimming posted this rock melting gun tech on Twitter/Reddit.

It looks super sweet! (Fullscreen it). Not really sure if the project will ever materialize into a fully launched game. Possibly not?!
Or it might just be the new Melt Rock Galactic? ;)

Rock physics breaking off, not currently supported.

A bit more detail of the process in the reddit thread.

Bolt visual scripting is now included in all Unity plans
https://blogs.unity3d.com/2020/07/22/bo ... ity-plans/

Bolt can be found here for free now
https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/t ... olt-163802

That took quite while. Better late than never! ;)

Just superficial experience with Bolt revealed that it's not reeeally my cup of tea. Adding nodes takes a long time waiting for the pop up to show up. Super annoying. And somehow the basic logic of Bolt is not that logic to get things to properly work. Just super basic stuff that would would immediately get to work intuitively in other visual programming languages. Not so in Bolt.
But it's great that it's there. When I find some time. I will take it for a spin again and see if I can get the hang of it this time around.

Props to Unity for their own solutions with eg. Shader Graph. It works quite well!

Let's hope Bolt 2 is going to be better. I have hope! Unity is certainly playing catch up to the competition on many fronts.
Also it's a bit messy situation where they are developing their own visual scripting system for DOTS only. That hasn't been full production ready in quite some time. And suddenly they bring in this external tool to cover the missing part. From what probably should have been a 'unified solution'.
It took them like almost 3 months to make it free from when the acquisition was announced. A simple question that is so blindingly obvious.
It is a bit telling about the speed of which the company is able operate.

Also I had a chat was a former Unity guy. And one thing that stood out in the later years is how slow it had become to do stuff in the company. As opposed to how quick it was to get features shipped in the early days and make quick coherent decisions.
It is almost like Unity Technologies has become too big and too disorganized for their own good. I guess the fundamental ambition of the engine is to be everything to everybody more or less. There are so many areas, people to manage and complexities they have to cover. So inherently the rate of progress and decision making will be an ever increasing challenge.

I know!.... big companies are usually slow juggernauts to steer. But this could certainly have moved a lot faster in theory. There might have been some complexities around the decision I am not aware of etc.
But I do think they need to optimize their company structure somehow. I've never worked there. So I don't have the answers.
It should be a pretty massive priority to remain fast and adaptive as a company in this day and age.

Another slightly worrying thing. They have yet to even announce support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both stated to be launching 'this holiday' 2020. Obviously they must have something in the cooker behind the doors. But it could certainly mean developers will be switching to Unreal Engine if they want an early release on the new console systems.

AI Dungeon: Dragon Model Upgrade

Go play the AI Dungeon here with the latest AI upgrade. It's pretty amazing! (7 days trial)
https://play.aidungeon.io/subscribe

The future for AI driven games is looking very bright. At least from an early technological stand point. There is still some AI oddness here and there in this generation. But enhanced even further and combined with AI generated visuals, more control methods and audio in later iterations of systems like this... will be absolutely crazy! But will be some years out. Super interesting to follow and thought provoking as where this sort of technology will lead.
